Glomerular diseases are common kidney disorders in children and represent one of the leading causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in pediatric populations. Therefore, the quality of life of children with glomerular diseases deserves considerable attention. In 2022, the core outcome set for adult glomerular diseases included several patient-reported outcomes, such as “life participation.” To date, numerous studies have been conducted on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for glomerular diseases. It is well known that a reliable PROM tool must undergo validation of its reliability and validity within the target population. However, there is currently a lack of studies validating PROM tools in pediatric populations with glomerular diseases. Thus, there is an urgent need for validation studies on the reliability and validity of PROMs in children with glomerular diseases, to provide a reliable foundation for future clinical research in this population.
Objective
To review published clinical studies on glomerular diseases in children, summarize the outcome measures and their assessment methods, and identify the most commonly used patient-reported outcome measurement (PROM) tools.
